Introduction to the defence industry
Pension funds, insurers and other institutional investors are increasingly being asked to invest in defence, given international developments.
It is necessary that there is broad knowledge about the defence sector in order to be able to decide on defence as part of a policy on socially responsible investing, impact investing and whether or not to invest in defence.
This course day covers:
- The role of defence in society;
- Geopolitics;
- Industrial policy;
- European and NATO cooperation;
- The acquisition process of large weapon systems;
- Export policy;
- The need for private investment;
- Risks;
- Defence as an impact investment;
- Removing persistent misunderstandings such as "we invest in government bonds and therefore also in defence; "Defence does not fit in with our mission of contributing to a liveable world"; "Pension funds are not ATMs of the government" and "we can't do anything now because the government is first in charge.
Lecturers come from the Ministries of Defence and Foreign Affairs, defence companies and from the financial sector.
